Born in Lusaka, Zambia (Africa), Nina Patel's interest in mantras stems from her Indian heritage where the power of the mind is taught at a very early age. Her fondest memories as a child are chanting mantras with her grandmother while visiting India for the summer. After moving to the United States with her family, Nina embraced her new Westernized life but began to question her purpose as she reached adulthood and became a mother. She resigned from her high-profile, executive career and embarked on a search to find truth – a time Nina describes as a spiritual awakening.
Although Nina’s background is not in music, her years of dedication to the power of mantra meditation led her to follow her heart and develop a method for teaching ancient Sanskrit mantras to today’s generation. Without a single singing lesson, but armed with passion and commitment, Nina transformed to the artist Mantra Mom and produces, writes and chants on her albums while managing all aspects of her record label and being a full-time mom. Mantra Mom has given birth to two albums or her creative children as she calls them: Mantras for my children and yours, released May 2008, and i am…, released March 2010.
Mantra Mom embraces both her Indian roots and Westernized life to create beautifully balanced music for today’s generation. Each album offers authentic mantra pronunciations and Bollywood-style music entwined with present-day affirmations and modern, hip-hop beats. Nina’s purpose as an artist is to beckon listeners of all religious and ethnic backgrounds to search for and discover the meaning in their own lives.
Nina is a Reiki Master who lives in Houston, Texas with her beautiful sons: Jaidan, 7, & Kalel, 5 and loving husband of eleven years. She practices Mantra Yoga, energy dancing and Zumba aerobics. To learn more about Mantra Mom, follow her on Twitter and/or Facebook.
