Mark Coleman, M.A., founder and principal of The Mindfulness Institute, is an internationally recognized mindfulness facilitator who has guided students on five continents to find greater peace and fulfillment through nature-based mindfulness practice. The author of 'Awake in the Wild', Mark is also a corporate consultant, individual counselor, poet, wilderness guide, and outdoor adventurer.
A student of mindfulness practices for over twenty-five years, Mark has, over the last fifteen years, led mindfulness workshops, trainings, and retreats for thousands at personal growth institutions across Europe, Asia, South America and North America; he is a member of the core teaching staff at Spirit Rock Meditation Center.

In his coaching practice, Mark works individually with corporate executives and other professionals to develop their capacity for skillful living, compassionate communication, personal mastery, clear thinking and effective decision-making –all in service of developing personal excellence. An accomplished and eloquent public speaker, Mark addresses thousands of listeners annually through more than a hundred presentations. He writes frequently for leading spirituality and wellness publications such as Tricycle, Shambala Sun, Yoga +, Yoga Journal and Common Ground and has made numerous broadcast radio appearances. Mark holds an M.A. in clinical psychology from San Francisco State University.
An avid wilderness adventurer, Mark has led 40+mindfulness-based wilderness adventures across four continents, including kayaking among humpback whales in Alaska, and exploring virgin rainforests in Costa Rica, the sub-tropical bush of New Zealand and high-altitude mountain regions in Peru. He is the author of the best-selling 'Awake inthe Wild: Mindfulness in Nature as a Path of Self-Discovery'; a German translation is forthcoming in 2012. He is author of forthcoming CDs on mindfulness and compassion meditations as well as two poetrycollections. Mark lives in the woods of Marin County, California.
