Better known by his former stage name “Common Knowledge” (sometimes under the mononym “Knowledge”), Marlon Kevin Vincent (born December 17, 1988), is a West Indian American singer, songwriter, rapper, instrumentalist, record producer, graphic designer, web designer and minister. His debut mixtape, Soul Cry, was released January 1st, 2011 while his second mixtape, Truth Speakers Vol.1 Hosted by DJ SpinOff, was released April 24th, 2011, which was all recorded in the month of March 2011. His first un-official album, The ReBirth, was released for free download as of August 18th, 2011 with executive production from Glenn “GLNRCK” Rodriguez. Marlon then released The ReBirth (Deluxe Edition) with three bonus songs for free download. After The ReBirth (Deluxe Edition) Marlon then released “prEternal Desperation” hosted by DJ SpinOff on December 25th, 2011, which would be his last mixtape under the name “Common Knowledge.”
Analyzing his life and purpose Marlon felt as though his music was an appeal to those who listened to it and at times found himself making music for others approval and not for the Father who gave him his gift. He then decided to “start over” embarking on a three month fast which included, social networking (facebook, youtube, twitter), only drinking water with meals, and little to no fellowship to isolate himself from any outside influences other than God by saturating himself not only in the Word of God but in the Spirit of God through worship, prayer and intercession. The result, the change of his stage name with the intentions to always be a bondservant of Jesus Christ on and off the stage. He released his “first” mixtape “Life After Death” June 8th, 2012 which was all written and recorded in a month, under the name Marlon Vincent which is a parallel of the first mixtape he released “Soul Cry” as Common Knowledge, feeling that God has given him a “second chance”, a chance to “live” again through music. His first album under the name Marlon Vincent will be “The Introduction of Marlon Vincent” which is to be released October 24th, 2012 with himself and Glen “GLNRCK” Rodriguez as the executive producers along with the aid of many other producers. Marlon is currently working on finishing up his album and Truth Speakers Vol. 2 Hosted by Kingdom Mixtapes which has no set release date.
Born and raised in Hollywood, Florida Marlon never expected his journey in life would be where it is now. Motivated by his faith in Jesus, formerly Common Knowledge (Marlon Kevin Vincent) represents the Lord with all his heart. An undergraduate in college at age 23, working on a Bachelors degree in Secondary Mathematical Education, most don’t expect a young believer like Marlon to be so serious about his faith but the way he sees it, he has no choice.
“How can I not give my entire life to a God so powerful?” -Marlon Vincent
To him it is the only option. His desire is that those who see him and hear his music, if only one person, that they would begin a transformation, encouraged to live a life unashamed of their faith in Christ Jesus and love Him wholeheartedly.
Everyday he recollects on the scripture that changed his life, in fear and trembling of the power of Christ Jesus. AMEN.
“Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?” And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” – Matthew 7:21-24 (NKJV)
Marlon strongly believes in a daily “Self Examination” of ones self in light of scripture to continuously live on the narrow path in the Will of God presented before us.
“God knows the intentions of my Heart. I know not everyone will love me but hated or loved I just want to have the opportunity to present the Gospel even if it means being alienated in my own community.” -Marlon Vincent
