Martin Ball

Martin has been composing and recording his own unique blend of music since he was 15. Starting off with acoustic guitar and keyboards, over the years Martin's musical skills branched out to include mandolin, bass, various flutes, percussion, didjeridu, harmonica, and even throat and overtone singing. Musically, he's always looking to explore new territory, blending genres, mixing instrumentation and combining and recombining various influences and styles. In recent years, his music has taken on a more electronic sound with the use of MIDI instrumentation, including choruses, symphonic instruments, and many sampled world instruments. Though mostly instrumental, Martin has also experimented with some spoken word and sparse vocal lines, intermixing occasional throat and overtone singing. Stylistically, you can hear the various inspirations in Martin's music of reggae, world fusion, folk, alternative, shamanic, psychedelic, Native American, Aboriginal, Middle Eastern, Asian, and more. For Martin, the creation and recording of music is a journey with no destination - a continual exploration, reinvention, and remixing of elements, all with the goal of creating captivating and dramatic music, from light to dark, playful to serious, crossing all boarders and continually branching into new territory.

Currently, Martin lives and plays music in Ashland, Oregon, where his main music project is with his wife, Jessalynn Jones. Together, Martin and Jessalynn are known as "JaM," where Martin has the primary music creation role and Jessalynn is the lyricist and singer. Martin has also played didjeridu and percussion with the band, Dreamtime Continuum, in Santa Barbara, California. In Ashland, he also hosts the "Locals Only Show" on KSKQ where he features locally produced and recorded music from Southern Oregon.

In addition to his musical creations, Martin is also a prolific and provocative author, having written such books as "Being Human: An Entheological Guide to God, Evolution, and the Fractal Energetic Nature of Reality," and "The Entheogenic Evolution: Psychedelics, Consciousness, and the Awakening of the Human Spirit." His music reflections the same fundamental philosophy of personal exploration and awakening as his writings and provide an excellent soundtrack for the necessary work of coming to know the self through introspective practices.
