Biography

My children have all grown up. I wouldn’t trade the years we spent together learning at home for anything. We were rich in experience, relationships, time, and books. I read outloud to my children many hours a day and learned lots of things – from how roads are built to how to fold efficient paper airplanes.
In the process of being a stay at home homeschooling mom, I learned as much as my children. So, I wrote a book to answer people’s questions about homeschooling Learning At Home: A Mother's Guide To Homeschooling. I published the third edition in August, 2007.

The second edition of Learning At Home was translated into Indonesian and published there in 2005. As far as I know it is the only English homeschooling book to have been translated in its entirety into another language.

I love to sing and when my children were young, we sang together in the car, at home, and/or at bedtime. One summer, I decided to record some of my favourites from the many songs we sung together. Brighten the Day – songs to celebrate the seasons is the result. You can listen to clips and read more about the CD if you follow the link.

I've spoken at various homeschooling conferences and presented workshops about education in various places in the US and Canada. I’d love to be invited to speak or lead a parenting workshop in your community wherever it is. Please contact me for rates and more information.

I've taught various parent and baby classes over the past 10 years - from baby massage to music classes. I'm now concentrating on my needle felted art and sell various needle felted animals as well as teach needle felting classes.

Remember:
You don't have to have a perfect voice to sing to and with your children. Start singing with recorded music if you are uncomfortable singing on your own. You might find that as you sing along with recorded music, you'll feel more confident to begin to sing on your own. Your children can be a very non-judgmental audience, especially when they are small. Enjoy yourself and have fun! Remember, if you can speak, you can sing!
