About Maryellen McCabe and Phoenix Rising

Singer, songwriter, producer Maryellen McCabe creates mythic, melodic, acoustic art folk/rock that speaks of universal love, spiritual awareness, service to others, social responsibility and Human Rights. Her writing style is unique for she writes song cycles, and concept albums where individual songs can either be enjoyed alone or if one listens to the album in entirety they lead to a larger theme and tells a story, like the Troubadours of old who kept the ancient wisdom alive during centuries of repression.

The New York Times has said "Maryellen McCabe's style is reminiscent of Grace Slick and Patti Smith." The Gannett Newspapers have described her work as "great rock music with a great message. "Commenting on her program, former Governor Cuomo stated: "Heroes and Heroines is helping to promote a better understanding of integrity, courage and service. I salute Maryellen McCabe for her creativity and vision."

In addition to creating the Human Rights CD, and Heroes and Heroines program and CD's, Ms. McCabe has performed her songs in New York City area venues for two decades, including the 49th Anniversary for the Declaration of Human Rights at the Hard Rock Cafe. The music video "Mother Teresa" has been featured on VH1's New Vision Show. Her song "IF NOT YOU" was featured in the AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL 1998 Award Ceremony documentary. She performs in Colleges and numerous benefit concerts for progressive Democrats, Peace, Human rights, and Environmental causes Jon Kalish of National Public Radio commented: "Maryellen McCabe's song-writing is unique, important and exceptional." Bob Fass of WBAI has said: "Maryellen McCabe is a rare treat." Jennifer Wagner of WKPFT in Houston has said "Maryellen is one of the best new singer, songwriters around, with a depth that moves your heart and soul," Patti Rose, contributing journalist to Rockbill and Musician Magazine, has called McCabe's triple octave voice "intense, inspired and powerful."

The musicians featured in her work are all accomplished studio players whose album and appearance credits include Joan Osborne, Bob Dylan, Indigo Girls, The Chieftains, Psychedelic Furs, Judy Collins, Gary Moore, Paul Winter, Tracy Chapman, Joe Cocker, WHAM, John McLaughlin, Carlos Santana and Bill Frizell to name but a few.. She is currently working on a video series based on her new album "Human Rights Heroes and Heroines".
