Biography

Matt Jasper is a New York based singer songwriter, currently residing in Queens. He has released three full length recordings under his surname Jasper, “Jasper Makes Music” (2000); “Thinking Back” (2002); and “The Distance Between” (2004). Additionally, he has released one full length recording under the name Matt Jasper, 2007’s “As A Matter Of Fact” and has released his follow up, “Bored Games” on March 2nd, 2010.

Matt Jasper was also guitarist and songwriter for the New Jersey based band Red Electric (2002), and was a cofounder of the student organization for musicians’ rights, Rutgers University Musicians’ Guild.

Jasper Makes Music and Thinking Back are based off of acoustic four track recordings. Some possible influences include early Elliott Smith or Ben Lee. The Distance Between and As A Matter Of Fact are both full band arrangements, with increasing instrumentation on As A Matter Of Fact including horns, bells, and strings influenced by REM, Ben Folds as well as Andrew Bird. Bored Games is a return to form, with a stripped down full band arrangement of drums, bass and guitars to coincide with layered vocal textures.
