Mattias Windemo

Biography

Mattias Windemo was born 1970 in a small town in the north of Sweden. He remained in his home town of Sandviken until the age of fifteen, at which point he began studying at the prestigious Ingesund's School of Music in Arvika. Two years later he became one of the youngest students ever to attend the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. Since then, Windemo has become one of Sweden's most renowned guitarists, and has made a name for himself not only in the jazz world, but in variety of musical contexts.

In 1990, Windemo and professional guitar builder, Jan Helge, together constructed a unique double-necked guitar. This custom-made instrument is tuned in fourths and has wide, concave frets. Form and construction make the guitar suitable for 'tapping' and Windemo is often seen playing with one hand on each neck, using it more as a piano than a guitar.

His intrepidity and pursuit of musical honesty has put Mattias Windemo in a league of his own. He's a musician of many dimensions and his means of expression are explorative and unique. Unlike anything you've ever heard, Windemo dares to fly and takes you with him on a swooping journey through unusual and exciting musical terrains.
