I've been studying music and playing with sound, electronic and otherwise, since about 1990. My parents started me on piano lessons around that time too. My first attempts at using a computer for music were on a 486 using the Windows Recorder playing with the sound of a car door slamming. I also experimented with recording video game background music from my TV onto cassettes for my Walkman. Other people sure thought that was strange!
As time passed, understanding grew. Bands like The Crystal Method and Fluke came along and inspired me. Eventually I moved into the world and had a job which allowed more expensive machines to become available. And I tried to emulate these sounds; tried to understand how beats were constructed.
The Internet expanded my knowledge of music and musicans in the later nineties. I hit the raves. Started to hear BT and Zircon. I discovered other ways of bending sound and other artists who were doing the same thing I was doing. The Yamaha RS7k rolled out and changed how I used samples and how I put music together.
Eventually, after lots of looping and sampling, and playing in bands, it was time for something important to be done. It was time to start building coherent albums for myself. The Void is the first of what I hope becomes many journeys of understanding. This project started in January 2010 and finished 2 years later. I hope you enjoy!
