Megan Jerome Trio

Biography

Following family singsongs and classical piano lessons Megan earned a degree in jazz piano at Carleton University (B. Music, Highest Honours). Megan's music is at once "avant-folk" and "boho-jazz" (Peter Hum, Fateema Sayani, The Ottawa Citizen). Megan’s 'beguiling homemade songs' have met rave reviews and her two recordings, Unlonely and This Uneven Pace, have topped charts on community and CBC radio stations nationwide. Megan's free spirited approach has earned her invitations to perform in a wide range of musical and artistic situations. Highlights include: a nationally broadcast concert for CBC Radio (Canada Live); the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival; and multiple appearances at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival, as a performer and as a composer in residence. In 2009 Megan was commissioned to create and perform a one-woman show, Sing a Song of SixPens. Most recently, Megan performed her songs as the musical setting for The Reins, a contemporary dance theatre piece by celebrated Canadian choreographer Tedd Robinson. In performance, Megan Jerome is simply enchanting.

Megan performs her songs solo, in duo and with the Megan Jerome Trio, with acclaimed musicians Petr Cancura (saxophone, mandolin, voice) and Mike Essoudry (drums, percussion, voice). Megan is working on her third recording of new songs.
