Pure Energy and Emotion: Canadian born (June 1st, Calgary) Melanie Dekker is a singer-songwriter whose 'voice like chocolate' is moved to move you. Dekker started performing as a teenager drawn especially to live performers and musically her favourites then were the Police, Madonna, and Joni Mitchell. Now she pens her own hits (including top ten in Canada: "I Said I") and has performed for President William J. Clinton, and opened for Diana Krall, Faith Hill & Chaka Khan. Notably Dekker was up for humanitarian artist & video of the year at the LA Music Awards as well. Over Christmas 2009 Dekker sang in Afghanistan to sing for troops, then in 2010 between tours she recorded an uplifting new album called "Here & Now"; the songs carry messages that she pondered throughout her travels. 2013 got Dekker started to record more at home, polishing off the new tracks at her bass players studio (Crosstown) in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The longing songs on the just completed 'Distant Star' album tug hard at the heart, while the uplifting & upbeat numbers like "Worry Gets You Nowhere" and "You're Powerful" shed sunshine on the listener, by encouraging a release from self criticism.
Melanie Dekker has performed in Finland, USA, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland, The Czech Republic and Canada. She's inspired by writers such as Gordon Lightfoot, John Mayer and Emmylou Harris and she likes to undress the obvious with a mischievous smile and a song. Not just a singer, not just a writer, but a world-class strummer...just check it out. 6 albums later... you must know at least one of her songs!
