When 3 St. Louis songwriters met through a web site posting several years ago they had no idea they would be BIGGER than the Beatles. But after adding a rhythm section they had 5 members and were definitely BIGGER. Not only that - they were taller and they weighed more.
Mix the classic power pop song craft of the Gin Blossoms with the roots musical elements of The Jayhawks and stir in a pinch of Barenaked Ladies humor for an idea of the unique Meteor Pilots sound. If you want to describe Meteor Pilots’ music in 1 word... it would be: FUNenergeticADDICTIVEunforgetableFUNNYuniqueHOOK-FILLEDguitar-drivenPOP/rock.
That might actually be 2 words.
After meeting, the fun surfaced right away - their first song (“One Finger Wave”) pokes fun at becoming famous. Going on-line to improve your girlfriend’s attitude is the subject of “wwwkissmyass.com”. The sing-a-long style and 3-part harmonies of “Walking Alone” make it truly infectious. The megalomaniac with a sarcastic wit (“Big, Big”) and the heartfelt thank-you sung as “I’m Proud to Call You My Friend” showcase the band’s diversity, ranging from hilarious to touching.
The Meteor Pilots come from music backgrounds of jazz/rock (Denny, drummer), a-capella (Eric, voice), rock/punk/praise (Jeff, bass), with wailing solos from Mike the lead guitarist and some guy from “a van down by the river” (Gary, gtr). They combine sound, humor, 4-part harmonies, visual aids, jazz, genius, imagination, game show, celebrity, pop, magic, feats of strength, trivia, lasers - take all these ingredients ...multiply by 5 [and then exclude a lot of them]... and you have the Meteor Pilots. (You might just need extra shorts in case you soil yourself from the excitement.)
