Michael Beese

Michael Beese started playing violin when he was 4 years old. He is left handed and his parents gave him the choice of learning to play left or right handed. He decided to get started sooner and learned to play right handed. Having a strong fingering hand contributed to Michael's ability and desire to improvise music rather than emphasizing the bowing arm as most violinists do. At 4 years old Michael thought that the word for guitar was "violin", and he told his parents about the mistake when he was 7 years old. He decided to stick with the violin. Nonetheless, rock guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, John McLaughlin, Eddie Van Halen and Joe Satriani have had a big influence on Michael's style. Michael was also influenced by Jean Luc Ponty and a number of jazz saxophone greats like John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. Michael played with orchestras in high school and college and he played viola in the UCLA Jazz Ensemble. Michael got his bachelors degree in physics from Stanford University. Michael enjoys sitting in with other musicians and playing by ear. He recorded the title track of "Territory", an album released by the late Ronnie Montrose. Michael has also sat in with the former keyboardist of the Tubes and the Grateful Dead, Vince Welnick. Michael played music produced by T. Lavitz of the Dixie Dregs. He enjoys playing at the Hotel Utah Open Mic in San Francisco on Monday nights and he plays country rock music with the Scott Garcia Band. Michael is a software developer and has had a lot of experience developing 2D and 3D graphics software. He has developed apps for the iPhone and other mobile platforms. Michael developed a number of award winning hit titles for Glu Mobile including Deer Hunter, Ice Age 2: Arctic Slide and World Series of Poker: Pro Challenge.
