Memphis based singer/songwriter, Michael Joyner is a mix of funky soul jams, folk ballads and jam/jazz rock hits. Originally from Jackson Tn, Joyner began playing guitar as a young teenager. “I started playing on an old acoustic guitar with one string. The single string helped me to hammer out my rhythm technique. My mom heard me strumming along one day and decided to buy me a set of strings.” Joyner spent most of his teen years picking out Hendrix, Nirvana, and Dylan tunes.
Joyner moved to Memphis in 2000 and started playing the open mic scene and gigging with a reggae cover band. A year later he started writing music and playing guitar in his first serious band Bella Sun. Bella Sun toured up and down the east coast and released one album before dismantling in the fall of 2005. During that time Joyner worked on a side project with Neo-souler Valenica Robinson, writing the music, recording and producing a 5 song Ep called Soul Searching.
After the release of the album Michael began to concentrate more on his solo career, while still recording for his Memphis musician friends. He released an Ep in 2008 called Sit and Wait, an earnest introduction to his own singer/songwriting growth at the time. He is currently performing in and around Memphis with his 3 piece band.
