Michael MacManus has been playing the classical guitar for over 13 years.
After completing a foundation music performance course at the Victorian College of the Arts Michael is currently a 3rd year BMUS student at the prestigious University of Melbourne where he is studying under ARIA award winning guitarist and renowned pedagogue Antony Field.
During his studies, Michael has played in master classes by the international greats Timothy Kain, Stanley Yates, Ricardo Gallen, Peter Constant, Adam Khan and James Day. He has also received tuition from the leading Australian guitarist Daniel McKay and from the South Korean Professors Lee Song-Ou and Sung-Ho Chang from the Korean National University of the Arts.
As a chamber musician, Michael has received tuition from Stephen Grant (Convenor of Voice and Early Music at Melbourne University) and played in master classes by Richard Gill and Donna Coleman.
A seasoned performer, Michael has performed at venues such as Melba Hall, Montsalvat, Karralyka Theatre, St Peter Claver Hall and Sacred Heart Church, along with live radio broadcasts and various performances with the Classical Guitar Society of Victoria (CGSV).
In June 2012, Michael won 1st prize at the Ringwood Classical Guitar Eisteddfod where he competed against guitarists from across central and rural Victoria. His winning performance was described as "an excellent display of technical and musical control!"
Michael is also a dedicated teacher, having taught in Victorian Government schools and privately since 2007.
