Mike Andes was born and raised in Timberville Virginia. He now resides in Pataskala Ohio. Mike is a founding member of the nationally known bluegrass band Nothin' Fancy. Mike will gladly tell you he was born with a God given tallent for music. He received his first guitar at the age of ten and a mandolin at age eleven. Mike will confess performing came easy. He plays by ear and has never had any formal training. Mike realized in elementary school he could seem to write poetry. He put his music ability together with his writting and began composing original songs. Over the years he has penned numerous songs, many of which have been recorded by Nothin' Fancy and other bluegrass artists. Mike released his first solo album, The Songs I Sing February 2013. The Songs I Sing contains fourteen of Mike's original songs. When Mike is not touring , writing or recording he is probably in his woodworking shop. Mike builds mandolins and fiddles. He is proud to say he builds the mandolins he plays on stage and the five string fiddle Chris Sexton plays along side him in Nothin' Fancy. Mike has sold many of his creations and continues to produce several each year.
Mike will tell you his best friend and biggest fan is his wife Becky Mason. They met at a bluegrass festival in Elizabeth West Virginia , August 23rd 2003 and were married August 23rd 2008. Becky and Mike have four children, three sons, a daughter, a son in law , two grandaughters, one grandson and a cat.
I hope you don't mind, I 've written this bio as if someone else was writting about me. I think what I've said is what someone who knows me would say. Really the best way to learn about me is to come to one of my performances. I will gladly talk with you because it's much easier than typing.
