A lifelong musician, Mike was born and raised in Robstown and the Northwest Corpus Christi area. He grew up in a Czech heritage music family and started guitar and voice lessons at the age of twelve at St. John's Catholic school in Robstown. His foremost mentor was Sister Nancy at St. John's, who trained Mike in the complexities and aesthetic qualities of guitar and voice.
From his beginning connections with his church ministry, Mike holds a wealth of experience playing various genres of music including polka, waltz, country, and western dance. He was an active member in "The Pavelka Orchestra," with his father, uncles and brother, and instrumental in two seperate bands of his own. Mike draws his inspiration from the numerous memorable acoustic guitar Masses held on Sunday mornings at St. John's. To this day, these performances can still be heard in the tonality and passion in Mike's sound.
After years of exploring other musical territories, Mike has returned full circle and found his calling in the original techniques taught to him when he was a young boy. He has revitalized this specific style taught by Sister Nancy and with it produced his debut Christian album entitled Life is a Journey, released in both hard copy and digital formats on February 28, 2012. Mike's deeply-rooted style combines contemporary Christian praise elements with uplifting rock riffs and country licks. His three singles Life is a Journey, My Very Angel and God Was Listening, available on his SoundCloud page at soundcloud.com/mike-pavelka, display the dynamic range of his talent and offer noteworthy stylistic expressions of high-energy praise, devotional love, and vulnerable meditational prayer. In late January, Mike released a video for God Was Listening, available on his YouTube Channel at www.youtube.com/user/mikepavelkamusic, which has earned Mike local praise and a growing reputation in the Texas Christian music community.
Tina Pavelka, Mike's wife, is a Christian lyricist and is responsible for writing the lyrics for Life is a Journey. Her accessible words offer a diversified experience of the personal journey referenced by the album's title. This first twelve-song release by Mike Pavelka is truly a Denton record from the inside-out, featuring collaborations from local instrumentalists and vocalists including Greg Beck, Giovannie Cruz, Eric Delegard, Clark Erickson and Steven Guckenheimer. It was produced under an independent label at Reeltime Audio by Master Engineer Eric Delegard and designed by Creative Director Scott Werley of the Corinth-based design studio, Radiant Pixel, LLC.
