Oakland , California composer and bassist Mike Sweetland has been playing a variety of styles ranging from Rockabilly to Funk, Hip Hop to Bluegrass, Folk/Pop to Blues/Rock since he got his first bass back in 1976. After gigging and recording in these genres in the Bay Area nightclub and party circuit since the early 1980's, he played his first professional Jazz gig in 2000. It is his eclectic musical background which informs his all acoustic instrumental debut album as a leader;"Stringsongruvscaipsoundtreks". Mike has performed extensively with George Clinton's P-Funk alum LZ
Love from night clubs to arenas and festival stages in 2002-2003 and Mike's love of playing the groove is what underpins his bass work. His compositions reflect
years worth of dance floor filling grooves and a sense of the Pop tunesmith's ear for melody. His debut cd was recorded in warm sounding, all analog recording studios (vinyl available) and features truly inspired soloing from some of today's heaviest hitters:pianist Taylor Eigsti, guitarist Mimi Fox and drummer Jay Lane.
