Matthew Blake known on stage as Minister Blessed (MB) was born on October 22, 1985 in Kingston, the capital city of Jamaica. He was born and raised in a Christian environment that was stimulated by music. This marked the genesis of his exposure to what would be his calling as musical minister and ambassador of the gospel. Having successfully launched “Purpose” as his debut album, he has carved out a spot for himself in the Jamaican gospel arena doing popular collaborations with Danah Cameron, Garfield Reid, DJ Nicholas, Sons Of The Prophet and Ryan Mark. Some of MB’s heavily rotated singles include ‘Dandy Shandy’, ‘Conquer Dat’, Walk Away Remix (featuring Tamara Calder) and more recently ‘Glad Bag Buss’.
In 1995, a solo performance at Jamaica’s National Arena marked MB’s introduction into singing on a major stage. This opportunity came through the group Ashe at a Psalty The Singing Song Book production. Having earlier musical influences, a professional musical career was born in 2001 when his group won the Jamaica Youth for Christ Deejay Competition at the regional, parish and national level. The successes reaped from the competition resulted in progressive movements in MB’s career. In that same year he was featured on the stages of Gospel ‘N’ Motion and Genesis.
2002 can be remembered as a pivotal year in the life and development of the musical minister. MB became the solo gospel recording artiste Minister Blessed. His ministry expanded bringing him to minister on the stages of Extreme Impact, Rise to Christ, Salvation PhD, C.I.A., Fun in the Son, and Crossover Party in Jamaica. Operation Consecration, his own annual event was developed and provided another avenue through which he could continue his ministry.
Teaming up with Dale ‘Dr. Dizzle’ Virgo in August 2005 yielded the largely popular song ‘Dandy Shandy’ and resulted in MB’s work on compilations including Mainfraime Riddim with song ‘King Jesus Reigns’ featuring Garfield Reid and Spirit Scription with songs ‘Problems’, ‘You A God’ and ‘Dance’ where he is featured by Garfield Reid.
Gaining ground on the Jamaican gospel scene, in December 2007, MB launched his debut album “Purpose” produced by Dr. Dizzle. The album featured collaborations with Jamaican gospel stalwarts DJ Nicholas and Ryan Mark. Also featured on the album were Garfield Reid, Sons Of The Prophet and Danah Cameron.
Having being planted firmly in the Jamaican gospel scene, MB has taken his ministry abroad. He has appeared on stages in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Florida.
In 2012, MB celebrates 10 years of musical ministry and is scheduled to launch his sophomore album in October. The album should feature recent singles ‘Shake Off You Problem’, ‘Glad Bag Buss’, ‘Conquer Dat’, ‘Walk Away Remix’ featuring Tamara Calder, and the song which he recently premiered for his debut music video ‘Love Triangle’.
