Misty Brown – American Singer/Musician/Writer
Nancy Tentman-Brown – Misty Brown (born March 15, 1972), a Southern California Native, began singing and playing the piano at an early age. Heavily influenced by Soul, R&B, Gospel, and Jazz artists such as Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, Nancy Wilson, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Diana Ross, Teena Marie, and Joe Thomas, the self-taught pianist learned to play by ear at the age of nine and soon began singing, playing and directing the choir at her father’s church in San Diego, CA on a regular basis. While attending San Diego State University in the early 90’s, she revived the Black Gospel Choir on campus for a short time as director/musician, and personally began performing jazz, soul, and rhythm and blues for hire at weddings, private parties, and special engagements. From San Diego, to Washington, D.C. and then back to Los Angeles, the public school teacher has taught elementary school by day and fed her passion for the arts by night performing impromptu at open mic nights, accepting singing engagements for special events, and has kept her ear sharp by jamming with local musicians. After receiving her Master of Education in Reading and Elementary literacy in 2009, this avid lover of music shifted gears and began seriously exploring her own natural musical abilities, trying her hand at song writing and seeking to define her own personal style and sound. A student of all musical genres she is currently writing, producing, and recording her own music.
