He is more than an artist. He is an ambassador of hope, healing, love, and restoration. Having a unique style that ranges from simple ballads to epic scores, and from pop and contemporary to hip hop and R&B, Tommy Animato has a style can only be summed up as “inspirational music like you've not heard before.” Tommy’s music encompasses a unique vulnerability only achieved by the baring of his inner man, an approach that creates a profound experience unique to each listener. His mission is to transform the world through a ministry of music.
At a young age, Tommy fell in love with creating music. He first learned to play by ear and then began developing his improvisational skills. The first song he taught himself to play: Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata.” Having grown up in a household where developing his God-given musical gift was an important focal point, he briefly studied both piano and drums privately. In addition to his short and targeted musical study, Tommy began writing and performing original music well before his teenage years. His early years displayed an intense dedication to using his God-given gift and anointing to uplift his community, local churches, hospitals, and even nursing homes. Tommy founded and lead a young men’s a-capella singing group, directed a young-adult choir, served as a worship leader, and lead many other artistic outreach initiatives in addition to performing solo. All the while, Tommy wrote and performed almost exclusively original music. It became apparent early on that God had anointed him to minister and touch lives through the arts.
Tommy Animato experienced an adolescence in which he had to overcome strong feelings of rejection and hurt, in addition to many other challenges in his own life as well as the lives of his loved ones. Through these challenges, he became more determined than ever to positively impact lives. His desire to fulfill his calling, particularly with a musical ministry, grew stronger. He has said:
“My mother taught me to use the pain I go through to strengthen and deliver others. When I would feel my lowest, she would encourage me to grab a pen and paper. I would document my prayers, my thoughts, my concerns, my questions, my faith... These became my songs. Sometimes I could barely write because my tears in those moments were so great. Songs, especially ones like those, I believe have tremendous power to strengthen and deliver others from their own pain.”
Tommy continues to display his inner self through his music, which has been described as the soundtrack to his life.
Tommy waited years for the fulfillment of his call to ministry. While waiting on the Lord in that area, he also pursued his call of raising a Godly family. Tommy attended the University Maryland where he received dual bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in various fields of business. Shortly after graduating from college, Tommy married his childhood friend, and he and his wife are continuing their endeavor to establish a Godly legacy.
While he believes he has long been ready to pursue his calling to ministry through music, Tommy also believes that God’s timing is perfect. He has learned patience and trust in God while waiting for his opportunity to make a worldwide impact. Currently, Tommy feels that he is at a place where God is impressing upon him to move forward and establish his ministry to touch the world. He therefore left a flourishing career in the private sector in favor of one that would allow him more time and flexibility to pursue this ministry. His philosophy is to live a life in which every aspect is centered on the triune God. Tommy looks forward to the great thing that God is going to do through him to touch a hurt and dying world.
