Moniquea was born in Gary, Indiana and raised in Pasadena, California. She has been professionally singing since the age of 15. She was bitten by the singing bug at the age of 7, while watching the rehearsals of her lead singer mother, aunt, cousin and two long-time family friends who were all in the Pasadena branded group "The Roses."
Moniquea's first notable public singing appearance occurred at Pasadena’s famous Rose Bowl, where she received a warm reception while singing, “Summer Time” during the highly attended “Turkey Tussle” football game between high school rivals, Pasadena Bulldogs and John Muir Mustangs. Moniquea then went on to compete in Pasadena’s largest high-school talent show at Pasadena High School, where the then 15 year old, snagged the first place position in the competition.
A few years later, she went on to land a prime-time slot as a single female artist at a "West-Side Connection" concert where she sang before a crowd of thousands. She was a two-time contestant in the Miss Black Pasadena/Altadena Pageant and was voted best talent and won a runner-up position, respectively. Once a part of a duo group, "Nuff Sed," Moniquea, and her then singing partner participated in a talent show at Pasadena City College, where they placed second; they performed at various night clubs throughout the Los Angeles and Hollywood areas, and most notably – served as talent during an NAACP Image Awards dinner.
Coming to the understanding that her desire of being a solo artist had never left her, Moniquea decided to part ways with her singing partner, just after 1 ½ years of being a part of the duo. She has sung and wrote the hooks to many songs for various underground rap/hip-hop artists in Pasadena and throughout the greater Los Angeles areas and appears as a guest artist on several albums and compilations.
After years of laying down vocals for many artists, Moniquea decided to put her foot forward by cutting her first debut self-titled album, “Moniquea.” The artist speaks of her decision as “a long-time coming… a time that is here and now.” The release of the album, “Moniquea” is highly anticipated; and she is confident that her audience will be pleased with the tracks and her vocal selections. She is a consummate professional who has made the conscious decision to not release the album, until all of her legal documentation and rights in relation to the album’s release is secure. The album is scheduled for release on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.
Eager to keep her momentum going, Moniquea has begun to record her second album (untitled); and continues to perform between 2 and 3 times a month. She has performed at nearly every reputable night club, including the Viper Room, the Roxy, Whisky A-Go-Go, Cinespace, H.wood, the Hollywood Canteen, Club Shag, Blu Monkey, the Savoy, the Green Turtle, Palms Bar and many more. Additionally, she was a featured performer at Mt. Palomar Winery in Temecula, CA in July 2011, the 8th Annual Fireworks Extravaganza with KJLH on July 4, 2011 in Exposition Park, the Juneteenth Heritage Celebration in Los Angeles, CA in June 2011, the 2011 KJLH KingFest (MLK Parade), Punch TV Network's 2010 New Year's Eve event and the 5th Annual Taste of Soul in Los Angeles, CA in 2010, as well as the 6th Annual Taste of Soul in Los Angeles CA in 2011. Additionally, she was invited to perform at the Los Angeles Sentinel’s Official Taste of Soul VIP Reception, also in 2011.
