Montenia was born in Detroit and traveled far and wide when her father was in the military. At an early age she displayed talent as a singer and began performing professionally as a teenager. She has gigged across the United States, in Greece and Scandinavia. As a vocalist, she possesses great range and power, but always sings within herself and never loses track of conveying the lyrics. Not someone who can be easily musically categorized, Montenia's live performance sets and albums contain a variety of styles and contrasting moods.
