MONTUNO SWING SALSA BAND

You'll be delighted with 15 songs which include a variety of Latin styles: Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha and Bachata + 2 Bonus tracks which feature the San Francisco Salsa All stars.

Montuno Swing is a salsa band that produces a big crisp sound. The band is a collection of outstanding San Francisco Bay Area musicians hailing from Latin America and the US, with a sound that reflects their eclectic backgrounds. The collective brings together juicy trombone tunes, long-tickling piano solos, and clever percussion beats to send you spinning across the floor. Montuno Swing is not only a music lover’s gem, but also a dancer’s band. They give salseros a lot of structure for movement and groove.

The leader of the band, Christian Tumalan, was born in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico. His music career started at the early age of 7, when he began acquiring the most important concepts of music and live performance. In addition to his piano studies, he felt a powerful attraction to musical composition. He has performed Jazz, Salsa, Pop and Latin Pop as well as Peruvian and Afro-Cuban music, and produced recordings for stage plays and broadcast "jingles." He has performed with the likes of Giovani Hidalgo, Pete Escobedo, Tomasito Cruz, Tony Vega, Johnny Rivera, Johnny Polanco, Ruben Blades, Poncho Sanchez Band, Alex Budman's Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, and many of the other bandleaders performing at this year’s festival.
