Here we are at last...launching ourselves into the echelons of the music scene. Chipping away, looking for the right connection...a way in perhaps. Follow our journey. One of 6 grown men as we embark on the trip of a lifetime – quite literally! Humble beginnings it seems with ROOTS in London, Cork, Italy and Detroit currently residing on the beautiful Emerald Isle. Our vibe has been likened to a number of well-known artists including; Gil Scott Heron and John Mayer, but somehow we still manage to retain that unique MOODY ROOTS magic – something to do with our bass player and his MOTOWN ROOTS (NOT a bad thing!) perhaps? Not a newcomer to the world stage, bass guitarist and producer Jerome (the Detroit Hitman) Rimson (“J” – the women love him!) provides a wealth of experience having played with greats such as Phil Lynott, the Detroit Emeralds, Van (the man) Morrisson and the Real Thing - to mention a few. You really should check out J’s website (www.thedetroithitman.com).
With J’s knowledge of the industry and Art’s (Art O’Laoire – good looking one) technical and musical acumen, MOODY ROOTS are “on the money” as far as the music’s concerned. Art’s played with us all in the band at some point previously and pulled our talents together to form what we believe will be one of the most influential bands to emerge from Ireland! Prior to his Moody Roots project, Art toured the world providing sound engineering for many well-known people (Dolly Parton, Tommy Cash, MTV eurpe and shows including Riverdance.
Essential “hot” guitar player Ivan Holden (the other “Van”) brings Motown/John Mayer/Claptonesque chops to beat the band a’la Fender Stratocaster a plenty (c’mon Fender, give us an old Fender Twin!). Known city and county-wide as a founder member of The Taxmen and of course us - MOODY ROOTS!
Formerly “Fatz Datz” (of Fatz Datz and the Kool Katz and the Fabulous Wytangi Brothers fame) Terry Datson (diamond geezer!) croons soulfully on each track, lending real life experience and an honesty to all of our songs. Born in London and relocated to Cork some 20 years ago, Terry retains his “street cred” and London (del-boy) charm. Armed with his Chris Larkin acoustic Terry interacts on a very personal level with audiences.
Hypnotic Groove is provided by all – with Ray Horgan (aka “Hoggie” ex “Sunshine Drug”) accompanying D’Lads on congas and general percussive vibes. Ray has been involved in the Cork music for the past 25 years as both player and promoter – a definite asset to any band – you do not want to buy a used car from this man! It’s important to make the point however that it really is the “sum of the parts” that make MOODY ROOTS work.
Blues guitar living legend Eoghan Regan, (aka “Reg” pronounced “Redge”) plays a winning combination of a VOX AC30 (original) and Gibson Les Paul. Known for his work with the Inner City Blues Band & the Booty Band “Reg” brings his individual blend of blues, soul and funk fusion. Rock on!
