Moruza is a collection of normal everyday people who, in between living their normal everyday lives of houses and gardens and families and jobs get together to play music.
The band name is pulled from frontwoman and songwriter Leslie Moruza Dripps. Coincidently and perhaps a little conveniently, the term 'moruza' is Puerto Rican slang for mish-mash, uncategorized, hither-thither--usually referring to somebody's hair. As a family name it is rare in the US as well as the world: there are only a handful of Moruzas out there.
Treat yourself to discovering that Moruza is a tad, er, moruza: indie-jazz-influenced-singer-songwriter-lieder-based-piano-pop. In short, music your ears can love.
MORUZA is Leslie Moruza Dripps--piano and main vocals, Melissa Sunderland--violin, Brian Cruse--double bass, Kyleen Terrana--backing vocals, Andy Blunt--percussion. The band is in the final stages of assembling their self-titled debut album, set to be out this June.
Whimsy. Optimism. Quirk. Moruza performs "the music we want to hear," says frontwoman Leslie Dripps. "We hope you'll want to hear more."
