Kevin Prince, aka Mr. Composition, is a 20 year old aspiring musician from San Antonio, Texas whose passion for making music started with writing short stories in the first grade. Not only did he write them, he also drew covers and made them into mini books, that were about 4 pages folded hot dog style and stapled together. He’s been very creative and loved writing since that time. In the 5th grade he wrote his first 12 bars and battled a one of the most popular kids around; both youth sucked but the other kid won because he was popular. At that time, Mr. Composition, left rapping alone for street ball, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, girls and skating in the 6th Grade. In the Middle of his 6th grade year, 8-Mile came out and brought back his interest in writing lyrics and rapping. Mr. Composition thought he was all cool impressing the girls because he could rap. 7th Grade he was placed into a program for young poets and writers where he learned structure and a new way to express himself instead of just rhyming words. 8th grade represented, at the time, one of his darkest years; he left outside of Texas for the first time to stay with his mother, sister and step-dad on a military base in Maryland. He found himself missing home; he and his sister were treated like crap and we witnessed the physical abuse of their mother. He is still haunted by the abuse ‘til this day because he wanted to do something to his step-dad, but felt helpless. So in Maryland he spent a lot of time inside if he wasn’t at school, writing songs on how he felt. It was a habit almost, anytime something happened he was inspired to write about it. In Maryland, Mr. Composition was introduced into bootleg cd’s, mixtapes, musical diversity, diversity of the different races at school, and was introduced to Hip-Hop. Since that time he has never stopped making music.
Developing a love for his art, Mr. Composition now sees himself doing this forever. Working with his group Rap & Co, which consist of the Founder Darnell B, Krunk Starr, DeJay, Maserati Marcus and himself releasing several solo projects such as:
(Cool, Mellow, Smooth)
Currently finishing up his latest FreEP (Genius Conflicted), and just signed a distribution deal with BreakIt! Distribution, he plans to drop his debut album, “Paint Dabs & Note Pads” by the end of 2012. His mission is to bring Hip-Hop back to that music you can feel with the combination of real life experiences and beats that bring out that story you can relate to. He’s not making for now music; he’s making forever music.
