Mr. Zay releases 'I Need A Word' album
Hosea Burnett has been a musician all his life, he said.
"By the time I was 10 years old, I had a heart for music and started putting songs together," the Hamilton native said. At 15, I started playing the keyboards and it went from there." Minister Burnett is a Minister of Music as well as and ordained Elder at Greater Love Fellowship C.O.G.I.C.
Burnett performs under the name Mr. Zay, and has released his third CD, "I Need A Word," on the Grafted In label, also based in Hamilton and operated by Mo` Zay
Mo` Zay is the production entity consisting of Eugene Meadows aka Mo` Hits and Mr Zay.
Burnett said that he first met Meadows at a wedding. It was at Burnett's church and Meadows was a guest.
"He gave me his card and we hit it off immediately," Burnett said.
Both share a similar vision to create urban music with a gospel message as well as the call to public Ministry.
"It's the message that we're most concerned with," Minister Meadows of D.A.P. Ministries said. "As long as the message is right, it doesn't matter what the genre is.
"We really wanted to reach the youth with a style of music that might reach people who don't normally hear the gospel," he said. "Once they hear the words, they start to get the message in the song."
So far, the team has gotten a great response from "Bread of Life" the first release in 2006 and the second release self entitled Mr Zay in 2008. The Mr Zay release featured Terry "Zapp" Troutman on talk box which gives the recording an edge that Auto Tune cant achieve.
All three CD releases are currently available at www.mrzay.com, CD Baby, Amazon.com, I Tunes, I Tunes Europe as well as physically distributed by Disc Union and international distributor for Japan.
Free samples can be downloaded from www.mrzay.com and Mr. Zay's MySpace page at www.myspace.com/mrzay.
In 2010, Grafted In Records will release a fourth Mr. Zay album, "For the Lover in You," with a message that encourages sexual abstinence before marriage.
"As Christians, we can express the ways we feel about each other in marriage," Mr. Zay said.
