Mukti/Glenn Rogers

Biography

Mukti is a West Australian band that creates a delicious musical fusion of Indian, Latin Classical and Jazz styles.

Featuring guitarist/composer Glenn Rogers, tabla-virtuoso Vick Ramakrishnan, percussionist/vibraphonist Josh Hogan and cellist Mel Robinson, Mukti blends sparkling rhythm melody and electrifying virtuosity; a true meeting point of cultures and traditions.

The group formed in 2006, and has rapidly become one of Perth’s foremost World Music groups. Mukti is championed in Western Australia by Kulcha, WA’s peak presenter of multicultural artforms, and by the Temple of Fine Arts, which is Perth’s main Indian Culture and Fine Arts institution. In 2007, Mukti self-produced and released their debut CD Inside In, and was featured at the Fairbridge Folk Festival. Other notable performances include lunchtime concerts at the Fremantle Arts Centre, Curtin University and His Majesty’s Theatre and Woodford Festival in Queensland.

Mukti is both a cultural and musical endeavour which seeks, through music, to access and develop a universal language to bridge cultural gaps, both in regional and urban Australia, and ultimately, internationally.

“Their music is passionate and intricate, and speaks right to the heart of people of all cultures and walks of life”

Dr Hament Hari, Secretary, Temple of Fine Arts.
