Murray Fentress

Biography

Born in Washington, D.C. on February 24, 1953, Murray Fentress began playing the guitar on his 14th birthday and has never stopped. Since that time, he has performed with a wide variety of bands including rock, country, and wedding bands. Playing with such diverse bands has taught Murray to play many styles of music, and play them with passion. This can be heard on his new solo CD "Labor Of Love".

Though Murray has spent most of his time playing in musical groups around the Washington, D.C. area, he has traveled as far west as Iowa, south to Hilton Head, S.C., and across the ocean to Europe. Over the past five years, as a member of the country group JR Booker, Murray has opened up for Dierks Bentley, Phil Vassar, Blake Shelton, Josh Turner, and Lee Greenwood.

Murray ‘s approach to his music has had numerous influences over the years. As you listen to his playing, you'll hear the influences of Chet Atkins, Jimi Hendrix, Pat Martino, Allan Holdsworth, Frank Marino, and Ritchie Blackmore.

Though he's had a career many musicians would envy, Murray considers making his new album with producer Timm Biery and a cast of amazing musicians to be his greatest career accomplishment to date. Murray writes, “Timm knows how to get the best out of musicians. I would not have known the extent of my musical ability had it not been for Timm Biery and his vision of my songs.”
