The all-teen rock band, My Last Revelation, has been performing since January 2007. Their music is brooding, edgy, and explosive. The distinction is in their hard-driven choruses, melodic verses, and unique harmonization. They bravely explore abuse, dysfunction, neglect, and addiction; while contrasting it with the strength and power of faith, hope, and love.
My Last Revelation is not a formula. They do not act according to marketing guidelines. They do not try to fit into a specific category or genre. Sure, like all artists, they have their inspirations and mentors. But, they march to the beat of their own drum. Not because they are rebels, but because the message inside them compels them to go a certain way.
Their message is about life, love, faith, and hope. It is a positive progression of allegories painting alternative perspectives on life. Although the lyrics are positive, they are not about sunshine and rainbows in a world of fantasy. They bravely skirt the dark corners of our minds; where the morbid thoughts of suicide, murder, and self-abuse exist. And while many songwriters dwell on these negative thoughts, MLR uses them to emphasize the power of faith and hope. Their desire is to be a positive influence to as many people as possible.
The song "Seek The Truth" (from their "A Blissful Eve" CD) is the band's mission statement. The goal is seek truth, understand it, and write about it. Their music is about real-life stories; some from personal experiences and some from observations. And, while many songwriters dwell on broken hearts and lives, MLR uses these issues as a way of proving the prevailing powers of hope and love.
They are delivering a message of encouragement; to give hope to those who are without hope. Their music is a call for everyone to believe in something good. When listening to their music, it is hard to not be inspired. And, although the music is not religious, some of its inspiration does comes from their faith in God.
Some might label them as pop or hard-rock. Call it what you want. And, if it makes you feel good to put them into a category, maybe alternative-pop is the closest description.
The band follows a busy, hectic schedule. They attend a public high school; with Jared and Derrick being seniors next season, and Kevin becoming a Sophomore. When not at school, you will find them writing, practicing, perfecting, performing, and recording their music.
They perform everywhere they can; including the San Diego and Orange County fairs in Southern California, and the annual Temecula Music Fest. They have consistently increased their fan base. In September 2008, they began recording their first CD, "A Blissful Eve". They finalized the CD in April, 2009, and it is now available on iTunes and other online distributors.
Many of the lyrics are written by Derrick, although Jared and Kevin have also written a few. The music is composed by Jared and Kevin, with input from Derrick. But, to separate it like that doesn't tell the whole story. The lyrics are often written first, then modified to fit the music. And, it is common for Jared and Kevin to modify the lyrics to fit their singing style. Which, in the end, means that the music is a collaborative effort.
