BIOGRAPHY
Nick Goumas began his jazz career in the mid 60’s while attending the University of Lowell as a member of the Miles Donahue Sextet which included Jerry Bergonzi , Charles Banacos , Harvey S , and Jack Diefendorf. After earning a degree in Music Ed., Nick spent 3 years as a member of U.S. Army Bands .The 1st year was at Ft. Devens in Ayer Ma. as a member of the 18th Army Band .The last two years were in Europe. While serving in Europe he was a member the 49th Army Band in Vicenza Italy and 3rd Armored Div. Band Frankfurt Germany. There he toured through many cities and countries as a jazz musician in both big band and jazz combos.
After returning to the United States , Nick began a teaching career in music and as a free lance jazz musician playing tenor and soprano saxophones . He has performed in various jazz clubs with his Quartet and Quintet through out New England , Boston , and Quebec City. His performance experience has been in a variety of musical situations with many great Boston musicians : Jerry Bergonzi , Miles Donahue , Charles Banacos , Jack Diefendorf , Bruce Gertz , Waldron Ricks , Larry Roland , Greg Burk , Rick Peckham , Geraldine DiMarco , Bob Gullotti , Peter Moutis , John Lockwood , Bill Pierce , Ken Cervenka , Bob Kaufman , Youron Israel , Greg Hopkins and Steve Marvin . Nick has also performed with some legendary jazz greats such as Curtis Fuller, the Four Freshman , Rosemary Clooney , Cab Calloway and “ Wild Bill “ Davis.
Nick Goumas is a jazz musician that performs with energy , feeling, and musical integrity. His Quartet’s straight ahead style and display of rhythmic and harmonic sense, produces some exciting jazz improvisation . His growing audience has a mixture of musicians and jazz aficionados alike.
