Guitarist Nicky Lewin worked as a press photographer for over twenty years, later becoming a photojournalist. Notably he was twice awarded "London and Northern Home Counties Press Photographer of the Year" and twice awarded "Disaster/Relief” humanitarian “Photographer of the Year" in Washington DC.
Amongst his many foreign assignments he covered the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami for several international publications including Paris Match as well as working in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Israel, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kosovo, Bosnia etc. etc. His last foreign assignments of note were during 2006 in which he reported the Mai Mai war in D.R.Congo for the Sunday Mirror, and also documented ten communities of Batwa located in Central/East Africa for CARE International. The Batwa are amongst the oldest of human cultures on Earth. In 2007 he returned to Africa to record an album of the unique and complexing Batwa music.
During this time his passion for the Spanish Guitar was never far from the surface. Early memories from childhood include TV appearances by Brazilian Baden Powell, French gypsy Manitas-de-Plata as well as a lifelong love of the ground breaking hit single “Classical Gas” by Mason Williams. As a recording artist Nicky made his first single for BackWater Records in 2009.
As a CDBaby artist, Nicky has several recordings available and many planned and being worked on. His main interest is in orchestration and he released his first single in the role of producer with renowned poet Martin Newell in March 2013. Nicky is at present working on two symphonies. He also teaches guitar, performs concerts and plays at a diverse range of functions.
