Niko Marks, a writer, producer and performance artist has recently collaborated with Dj/producer, Carlos Nilmmns to complete an EP entitled "Lounge Chair".
The album contains five selections of Deep/Jazzy/House and each one is layered with musical color, beautiful soundscapes and orchestral elements that cascade uniquely throughout. Aside from the smooth intro of "Obsession" to the melodic flow of "Elle Est Une Dansues a Minuit" there are two tracks that feature Niko Marks on lead vocal, "Human Expansion" and "Spacebabies Mixture Two" - remixed from the original (Through Time and Culture). This project was released April 13, 2012 and distributed via CDBaby on the U2XProductions imprint.
Very soulful and deep EP with a fetching atmosphere... great joint venture!" - Eve White
"Keep coming back to this one - there is such a beautiful Innervisions 70's keys feel. And there ain't nothing demeaning implied by the 70's allusion - despite the 3 day work weeks & power cuts I loved 'em. In fact, in that respect, during these harsh economic times this album could be seen as very contemporaneous. Totally authentic real soul for modern times with a dash of sunshine. Love it! : )" - Bluepoles Essex, Britain (UK)
"Amazing straight away." Collaborating with Niko Marks :)" - Matthew Collins
In early teenage years, Niko became inspired by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Paul McCartney, Elton John, George Clinton, Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau, Miles Davis, Chaka Khan and many others.
The next phase in his musical career led him to team up with Michael Banks of Submerge, formulating a production team called Members of the House. They released tracks such as "Summer Nites" - written by Niko and featuring him on lead vocals and piano, as well as “Share This House” and "Something About You". Niko also collaborated with Michael Banks under the group names, Unit 2 and 365 Black. This mission stemmed forth the high-spirited grooves, "Sunshine", released on Happy Records and "Keep Your Head Up" written by Niko and Raphael Merriweathers - featuring Niko on lead vocals and keyboards and was released on 430 West Records.
Further developing his writing and production skills, he began writing and producing on projects with Michael J. Powell of Vanguard Productions, who produced for artists such as Anita Baker, Rachelle Ferrell, The Winans, Randy Crawford and more.
In 1999 he produced a project called "Niko Marks & The City Boy Players" that included some of his musician friends from Detroit - amongst them was his long time cohort, Eddie "Flashin' Fowlkes. Niko Marks has also produced for other labels such as Ideal, React, R&S, Planet E, Subject Detroit, Puzzlebox and City Boy Records.
As a self-sufficient artist, Niko continues to write, produce and release cutting-edge music on the U2XProductions imprint. He is also known for his remixes which include labels and artists such as: Yore Records, Puzzlebox, Tom Tom Club, Aux 88, Black Tokyo, Herschel Boone and more.
When performing live, he is usually accompanied by a bassist and a drummer. Together they an electronic trio who perform one of the most eclectic and diverse dance sets.
