With her beautiful, soulful voice, intimate songwriting and elegant style, Nina Vidal is on the verge of showing the world what a select few already know. She's a classic artist that's here to stay.
Born Nina Simone Vidal it would appear her destiny was determined long before she arrived. A "little singer-songwriter" from New York, this shy and modest 25 year old could have had little knowledge of the impact her music would have when a few years back she posted a few songs she'd written online.
Unlike so many artists today that rely on gimmicks or fancy production to mask ability, Nina was a throwback to another era. Softly, with just her voice, piano, and a song Nina moves the soul. And like a throwback to so many great artists of the past it would initially be a country other then her own to first recognize her amazing talent. Japanese label Uni-Village came across Nina's demo and quickly realized something special was taking place.
On September 10, 2008, Nina's self-titled debut was released in Japan and immediately struck a nerve. Within 6 days of its release, and with little press or fanfare Nina suddenly had the most downloaded Jazz album on iTunes. By September 20 Nina's debut album would replace Norah Jones smash hit "Come Away With Me" as the #1 Contemporary Jazz album in the country. She would hold on to that #1 spot for an incredible 8 months. Then Nina would solidify her mass appeal by crossing over and reaching #3 on the Pop charts right alongside Beyonce. Quite an impressive feat from this "little singer-songwriter".
Nina's sophisticated style and grace also began attracting the eye of fashionistas from the Ginza district of Japan to the mecca of the fashion world in Paris. Nina was now being courted as a new cover girl.
In 2009 Nina began working on her new album. She was amazed to find a list of admirers eager to work with her and some of the finest musicians on the planet are featured on the new album. Lonnie Plaxico (Cassandra Wilson, Wynton Marsalis), Jean Caze (Herbie Hancock), Jeff Haynes (Pat Metheny, John Legend), Lee Hogans (Prince, Jay-z), Jody Redhage (Duncan Sheik, Beyonce, Neil Diamond), and many others lent their talent to the sessions. "The Open-Ended Fantasy" will be released 2011. Sophisticated, stylish and beautiful Nina's new album is without question, truly a classic.
The first single off The Open-Ended Fantasy is "Cigarette & Wine" and It's already a #1 hit in Japan. Written by Nina, it's a steamy ode to a relationship gone awry, with a heartfelt lyric that draws you in. On the "B-side" is Nina's take on the classic Paul McCartney & Wings song "My Love". Nina's voice swoops & soars over a deep groove and once again entangles the heart with it's melodic beauty. It's a limited pressing and will surely become a collectors item for true fans of this rising star.
Nina Vidal is a wonderful new voice that will touch your heart, move your soul and restore your faith in the power of real music.
