An urban girl with a Southern heart and Eastern roots, Nita Chawla's melody-driven song-writing style has hints of her eastern roots and forms a sometimes sweet and sometimes edgy musical palette. From the classical vocals of Mohammed Rafi to the edgy and ethereal sounds of Tori Amos, to soulful pop singers such as Adele and Colbie Caillat, Nita’s vocal and songwriting style have been influenced by both the east and west, contemporary and traditional.
In July of 2009, she worked with producer Jeffery David in L.A. to record her debut album “Fall Again EP” which was released in February 2010. Her song "Forgive Me" received an honorable mention in the 2010 MASC (Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest) and was featured on the first season of NBC's "The Voice" in 2011 as well as the first season of NBC's "Fashion Star" in 2012.
After a yearlong stint in NYC, she is currently in the DC metro area performing regularly with her band and with the touring group “The 9 Songwriter Series” at venues like IOTA, The Lincoln Theatre, Rock and Roll Hotel, Hard Rock Café, The Velvet Lounge and Wonderland Ballroom to name a few.
