Nuri

Nuri (born Ayana G. Brody on June 12, 1986) is a singer, songwriter and rapper based in Washington, D.C. Her eccentric influence on music is just as diverse as her background. Nuri’s love for contemporary gospel has been a more recent infatuation since the release of some of her favorite artist’s albums. She has always loved gospel music and being one of the newer contemporary gospel artists on the scene, this genre is right up her alley.

Due to her parents love for world travel she understood more about different cultures, and was naturally inclined to adapt to eclectic genres in music over her life. Raised in Scotch Plains, New Jersey she has been blessed with the opportunity to appreciate and participate in the performing arts from ballet, violin, theater, and fine arts. These activities have added distinction, class, and musical fortitude towards the development in Nuri’s musical career.

The purpose of this informal meet and greet with Nuri is to get a look into the Nuri Nation. Currently Nuri is working on her first single entitled Light in my Veins. This single will encompass a new sound of a club-mix and gospel. The single is to be released on January 8, 2013 on iTunes and all digital distribution companies. Nuri wishes to release her album “The Reformation of Me” sometime in the fall of 2013. Her album will consist of very eclectic sounds from Indie rock to neo-soul. The new sound of music being presented from this album will be the forerunner for all contemporary gospel artists to come.

Nuri treasures the spiritual gifts as well as natural gifts of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Janelle Monae, Mahalia Jackson, Etta James, Lauryn Hill, Sade, Run DMC, Curtis Blow, Kirk Franklin, Lecrea, Mary Mary, and Kierra Sheard. Nuri has often heard her grandmothers the late, Hattie Brody and Gladys Young sing in their kitchens old gospel songs and spirituals and carried their passion for praise and worship inside of her. Nuri carries on the legacy of spirituality, freedom, poetry, and happiness into this era of contemporary sounds. Nuri’s life experiences carries the inspiration for all of her songs and has titled her debut single Light in My Veins. “The world needs to have music that will up life, energize, and bless the lives of those who play my music,” says Nuri.

Nuri has been involved in the music life once before at an early age. Nuri has decided to claim her once again passion for music to be broadcasted in her ministry. Nuri started singing at the early age of 5 in her church choir at Saint John’s Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Nuri has also shared opportunities with outreach and performing arts to entertain the community by her instrumental gifts. Fusing a contemporary sound with a soulful voice and a broad range of hot topics in society. Nuri sings melodies to themes of revelation and revolution from her soul.

From a collection of her life lessons, she plans to renew faith and freedom in the hearts of humanity with the message conveyed throughout her songs. Light in My Veins is an upbeat song with a club-style dance sound that encourages everyone to find the inspiration for their release of their personal demons. Nuri is flooding the music scene with an energetic, upbeat, and vivacious flow of lyrics and lifestyle. Nuri is eager to rock more stages and advance into a fresh phase with her new single Light in My Veins. Nuri’s often heard saying the following words that she lives by “This is the life I chose by myself, that was predestined for myself.”

Nuri’s purpose is to bless people with her particular sound and lyrics from the Lord. “There are moments in life when the music that is being produced is no longer reaching the listener spiritually, or audibly,” explains Nuri. Nuri has often sought out venues to hear new sounds whether it is through her family’s musical ability or on her own. Nuri believes she is an upcoming artist with enormous ideas who has the ability to accept all challenges and responsibilities that this life will entail.
