Orchestra Joubès

Can a 'trio' compose and perform orchestral music? That is the challenge hidden behind the name of such a peculiar ensemble of instrumentalists: Ernesto Nobili – with his unparalleled guitar craft, including the design of his own instrument – Antonio Fraioli – who brought in his astonishing experience in folk music, exceptional violin skills and the ability of making music out of trash bins and tuned percussion tubes – and Davide Mastropaolo – most successfully blending in his experience as a score composer with an electronic music background.

An orchestra in a modern and ironic sense, producing a broad spectrum of sonorities whose greatest feature is to be contaminated by the so called ‘world music’. Clearly inspired by the artistic avant-garde of the early 20th century – the name Joubès recalls an old sweets factory based in the small French village of Sarlat Perigord – the three members of the Orchestra Joubès love to play around with a repertoire of faraway kinds of music and reinterpret them without any stylistic limitation. Just like a modern chamber music ensemble, which is not afraid to let its music take unexpected twists via mixing it with unordinary acoustic samples.
