Orphan Tunes was born of a South African couple whom were of Indian Descent but had immigrated to Australia in the 1970's during appartheid. He was born and raised in Central QLD, tertiary educated in Brisbane, Australia.
Orphan Tunes has always been involved in music from a young age, learning piano and violin without ever reading music. He was first taught by a nun! He kept playing and started experimenting with drum machines and computer sounds; all toys bought with the money he earned from his part-time job. As he got older he started gaining experience in orchestra's and live hip-hop shows, then went into promoting.
After school and during university, Orphan Tunes got a taste for the dynamics of Brisbane nightlife and established Brisbane's first Vinyl Hip-Hop Club. This club was infamous for all hip-hop heads in Brisbane. It attracted a truly multicultural patronage and flew in Australia's best underground talent in Sydney and Melbourne while supporting local talent. It helped establish many of the DJ's that make a living in Brisbane today from the hip-hop scene.
After Graduating in Law which happened after closing the club. he taught himself guitar and began writing and producing music for himself. This period was productive. Afterwards he moved to London, worked wherever he could legally or illegally, in courts, evictions, landscaping and as a barista. During the misadventures he played acoustic sets everywhere meeting mad musicians from all styles, jammed and learned new things and made good friends. He also got exposed to studio and production through three good friends. After that stint he came back to Oz, lived in Sydney for a year and tinkered around with sound, met musicians, jammed as he sussed out how he could fit in the musical landscape.
Quickly he became Nauseated with that place and moved to Melbourne. There he worked with an international law firm for three years buying music equipment while setting the ground work to set-up a business and studio. That time is now.
Now that the real life is sorted, Orphan Tunes has offered up a Unique clash of electronic sounds with hip-hop beats all with an Australian Accent and crafty lyricism that creates an insatiable mix of sounds. You can hear that life informs the sound and the sound is honest, creative, tight and deserves attention. It is really good.
