PIXSID is the duo formed in 2009 from the musical meeting of instrumental hip-hop artist Dj Sid-the Apocalypze (USA) and cybervocalist Pixieguts (Australia). With influences like Dj Cam, DJ Spooky, DJ Krush, Funki Porcini, HipGnosis, Portishead, Dead Can Dance and Cocteau Twins, this sound is uniquely dreamy and funky, a deep downtempo ride.
Pixieguts is Australian vocalist Marie Craven who has collaborated with many music producers around the world and is a devotee, podcaster and promoter of electronica across the genres, especially in its 21st century forms so highly influenced by the internet. She sang and played guitar from an early age, taught by her father who wrote and performed country music and her early musical life also included choirs, some classical voice training, busking and theatre. She later spent many years as a writer and director of multi award winning short films with international festival screenings including Cannes, Rotterdam, London, Sydney and Melbourne. Her sampling approach to vocalizing for electronic music reflects this diverse artistic background.
DJ Sid's mother was a Baptist piano player, his father a photographer. When Sid was still in grade school he began tinkering with sound fx and making beats. His music was forged in the first generation of hip-hop when he moved into dj-ing for parties and radio while majoring in sound production at Ohio University. In 2005 he released his first album 'Liquid Relaxation' which attracted college radio airplay in the USA and was selected as Editor's Pick on major independent distributor CD Baby. His further albums 'Jazzydiscotek' (2006), 'ButtaFly Tunez' (2007) and 'Twilight Zizone' (2007) continued to attract CD Baby feature spots and positive press in Groundlift, REAX and LINK magazines. He currently resides in San Francisco, CA - USA.
