Parc X trio
2010 TD Jazz Grand Prize of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal
Parc-X Trio is an instrumental jazz group featuring Gabriel Vinuela-Pelletier (piano), Alex Lefaivre (bass) and Mark Nelson (drums). Their original compositions are a cinematic soundtrack to their urban surroundings. Hailing from Parc-Extension, Montreals most multicultural borough, the band sets itself apart from the pack by creating an original sound that mixes elements of pop, classical, jazz as well as world music. There are known for the high-energy shows and their charismatic stage presence. The band’s first album, Parc-X Trio, has been critically acclaimed and shows a surprisingly mature sound. Parc X trio is the winner of the 2010 TD Jazz Grand Prize of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. After months of hard work, Parc X trio releases its second album beginning of summer 2011. Recorded and co-produced by Tim Gowdy at Pierre Marchand’s studio last December, this 13 track album is a real musical voyage where different movements of the main suite, Cent questions sans réponse, are spread throughout the various other soundscapes. This new album is composed of 12 original pieces as well as a cover of Imparfait by French-Canadian songwriter Daniel Bélanger. This new music represents a huge leap forward for the band, which has finally found it’s own sonic identity that sounds like nothing else out there. It’s a blend of contemporary jazz that focuses on group interplay and high energy all while keeping a strong melodic sensibility.
