Before the age of 8, Patrick Avalon Tully had already moved six times to four different countries and spoke three languages. This kind of global and cultural exposure began to lay the frame work of the inclusive and universal nature of his music.
Known for his compositions, performances, songwriting, and production capabilities, Patrick brings a variety of musical ideologies and influences into his projects. Whether writing ambient or dynamic solo piano music, writing pop/folk/rock/electronica, or producing various projects or albums, his knowledge and adherence to form makes him one of the most versatile composers, song writers, and producers of today.
Patrick began his musical studies with trumpet, soon after taking up the piano as well. His first solo appearance with an ensemble was when he was nine years old. After winning several national and international awards and competitions with trumpet, he decided to focus primarily on piano, finding it more versatile and with greater creative possibilities. While at Interlochen Arts Academy he studied piano with Benjamin Yu, and then went on to Oberlin Conservatory to study with Peter Takacs, where he solidified his pianistic technique. However, it was his nine year study with American composer and pianist, Joseph Fennimore, that his musical sensibilities and performance ability began to develop and mature.
Arriving in New York City he quickly began to get involved in the musical and theatrical communities where he was often hired/cast as a musician, actor, or both. He performed musically and theatrically in venues such as La Mama, The Performing Garage, Ensemble Studio Theatre, and New York Theatre Workshop, among others.
Soon after, Patrick made his way to Los Angeles, diving deeper into his yogic practice and music.
At playPatrick has toured across the United States playing in such venues as The Bottom Line, Fez Cafe, and St Ann’s Warehouse, all in NYC, Steppenwolf in Chicago, The Intiman in Seattle, the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, and The Bootleg in Los Angeles.
He now resides primarily in Los Angeles and Sedona, where he composes most of his work.
“Music is a combination of energy and intent. It can open portals into different states of being. It can transport us into regions within, that until that moment, have been undiscovered. Music can be a journey, bringing us out of exile. Bringing us home.”
