Paul Humphrey

Award-winning singer/songwriter and composer Paul Humphrey has been a part of the Toronto music scene for over a quarter century. Paul burst on to the scene in the 1980s as the front man for the groundbreaking new-wave group BLUE PETER, whose songs, videos and performances contributed strongly to a defining moment in Canadian music. Since then, Paul has continued to leave his mark on Canadian music as a lead singer and songwriter with such groups as THE MONKEY TREE, BROKEN ARROW and more.

A tireless innovator who continues "to stretch the boundaries of popular music" (NOW Magazine), THE MONKEY TREE and BROKEN ARROW allowed Paul to explore and expand upon his foundation as an artist. In fact, BROKEN ARROW made the critics circle in 2000 when John Sakamoto of the Toronto Sun hailed the band's track Ragdoll as the best song of the year on his "Anti-Hit List". In addition to his work in the recording industry, Paul has worked extensively in theatre as a composer, performer and songwriter and was the musical director for Toronto's Briefcase Productions for 6 years.

Paul's quest for deeper modes of musical expression has culminated with the 2007 release A Rumour Of Angels: a new CD arranged for voice with chamber orchestra. Collaborating with Genie-award winning composer Patric Caird, composer/orchestrator Paul Alexander and featuring members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, A Rumour Of Angels features 11 original orchestral driven tracks filled with emotional, poetic and rousing lyrics. The arrangements on this recording include influences ranging from 20th Century Classical, to contemporary western, to traditional eastern in flavour. Soaring and peaceful, lush and adventurous, the songs on A Rumour of Angels explore the mysterious relationship between the self and the spirit.
