Paul Rudy

Dr. Paul Rudy, DMA. In 2012 I moved onto the land in NE Kansas. On these 70 acres of woods and prairie, I spend time and energy harmonizing with the physical and non-physical. I have built three ceremonial spaces to honor the energies and ancestors: one for the feminine, another for the masculine and a third for both. I have learned to balance mind, body, and spirit in this playground, and built a labyrinth where the non-physical becomes palpable. In 2014 the spirits of the land and the Star Nations began showing themselves as orbs in photographs and in the Universe of my breath. Whether as a composer, performer, photographer, writer, or teacher, my work seeks to commune with essence, to honor all for what it truly is. The land has taught me the cycle of life, and I have composed about it. I have been described as “the High Priest of Sound,” and my music as “The Universe unfolding one sound at a time.” The music that comes through me is simultaneously primordial and celestial and brings into dialog the voices of all relations, your own thoughts and memories, and many “places.” It opens up a horizon that you may choose to navigate on your own terms. The journey is not so much of my design, but of your desire. When you allow it in, it will awaken you to both the deep and hidden corners of yourself, and the light and love that awaits to transform and integrate all into cohesion. It will help you come home to yourself.

As a composer, my music moves broadly from free improvisation and film scoring, to chamber and orchestral, to sonic alchemy and healing. I facilitate improvisation, sound healing and meditation, and playing with music and sound in all its meanings. I am a Rome Prize (2010), Guggenheim (2008), Fulbright (1997) and Wurlitzer Foundation (2007 and 2009) Fellow, and my music has won Global Music Awards (2012 for Innovation in Sound and Mixing/Editing), the Sounds Electric ’07 Competition (Dublin), EMS Prize (Sweden), Citta di Udine (Prize ex aequo, Italy), and has received recognition and commissions from IMEB, Bourges (2008 commission), CMMAS, SEAMUS, Meet the Composer, the American Composer’s Forum, SCI, and NMTA. I am Curators’ Professor of composition at the University of Missouri at Kansas City Conservatory. In 1994 I completed the Colorado Grand Slam after climbing all 54 of Colorado's 14,000 ft peaks. I have 6 CD’s which are available at CDBaby and iTunes. I love leading group and private performance meditations, journeys and healing sessions and can be reached at Twistedtrail@paulrudy.com.
