Penelope has been called the female Jimmie Rogers and the American Edith Piaf for her ability to put real life into songs. In fact, she is even calling for a new genre, “Singing About Life.” This genre would allow musicians to use any type of music-just as long as the subject is about real life situations. She is a past recipient of the California Country Music Association’s Vocalist of the Year, and during the 90’s her band, Penelope and A Little Bit of Gold played all the major and many of the minor country music clubs in Southern California.
Penelope has three adults albums filled with songs about real life situations and 6 children’s albums. Most of these albums have to do with ecology.
Penelope has long been a proponent of ECOLOGY WITHOUT FEAR. She believes that if we all become guardians of the earth, caring for all of the elements of the earth, we will all do the things necessary to protect these elements. She believes that music and art, as well as hands-on experience with nature, can help to bring this about. Her songs provide the basis of her interactive ecological musical puppet show. In these shows, the audience becomes the puppeteers. Penelope plays guitar, sings the songs and performs the lines. Her shows are popular in Southern California and have also been performed in such places as India and Thailand.
Thanks to the internet her songs have also provided the theme for numerous ecology events around the world.
Penelope lives in Pomona, California outside of Los Angeles. She is also a professional photographer and the creator of the DVD series, Take Ten, Ten Minutes With Nature and the author of “Einstein in My Garden.” This is a delightful book of photos and reflections on bugs.
