People Project is an intercultural, multilingual project that brings together collaborators from around the world to explore new ground where culture, language, rhythm and melody meet in harmony.
Based simultanesouly in Ottawa, Canada and Mexico City, Mexico, and led by its co-founders Philippe Lafreniere (CA) and Gabriel Bronfman (MX), the two musicians reach out to collaborators from just about anywhere and together, they write, record, and perform internationally. With a mix of funk, hip-hop, reggae, and folk, deeply rooted in heavy afro-brazilian rhythms, collaborators come together to sing in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, and touch on themes that range from heavy, international socio-political issues to the deepest of personal experiences. In short, the project really is about ‘people’.
Their second album ‘natural’ (July 2009) is supported by The Ontario Arts Council (Canada) and falls nothing short of organic elements and vintage textured recording which gives a warm, old-school quality to a new age project that is all too unique. The new release also features guest artists such as The Souljazz Orchestra, Kobo Town, Yusa, and Rommel Ribeiro.
Since the group’s inception in 2006, People Project has performed in North America, Mexico, and Europe for a number of concerts, festivals, showcases and live radio performances. A new album and new partnerships with management, marketing and ever-growing networks in several countries marks a new chapter for the group as they push hard into 2010.
