Percolator

Biography

Percolator is a four-piece rock band of the brainy and anxious variety, like the Pixies, Modest Mouse, Brainiac, the Dismemberment Plan or the Talking Heads in their earlier years. The band consists of three multi-instrumentalists--Phil Bertulfo, Matt Collander, and PJ Macklin--who switch between rhythm, lead, and bass guitar; and Ben Sachs, who plays drums. All four share vocals and lyrics-writing duties, and the music is written collaboratively by the band.

This democratic process has yielded great productivity in Percolator. Between 2007 and 2008, the band recorded four EPs and one LP of original material, which they self-distribute around Chicago. In 2009, they began recording a 25-song LP in between the regular run of shows, loft parties, and day jobs. The new material finds the band exploring new musical territory, with songs inspired by art rock, post-punk, as well as 70s soft rock and psychedelica.
