Thanks to an ambitious coupling of searingly-honest song-writing with a visceral blend of Hip-hop, Rock, Dub-Step and Drum-n-Bass, Sunderland 5-piece Plecdrum.Inc are undoubtedly one of the north-easts freshest up-and-coming acts.
Founder members Adam Penman (rapper) and Lloyd Joyce (vocals and guitar) met on the 1st January 2012 at a New Years Eve party - “we started jamming along and Adam started rapping over my guitar, I think it was Stan by Eminem, and it worked, so we started to meet up more and more often, started writing our own songs, and we thought “this sounds great” so we headed over to Broadwater studios to record a few tracks and went from there” recounts Lloyd.
In October 2012, the duo released Love Monster, a desperately dark tale of a femme-fatale and her victim. The single proved an immediate hit on Youtube, racking up over 14,000 views and garnered considerable anticipation for their next single; Oh My Days. More songs and live shows followed with the band playing support slots at The Stadium of Light and Newcastle's O2 academy.
Over the course of 2014, Adam and Lloyd decided they needed to raise Plecdrum.Inc's game - “I thought imagine how much better it would be if we had something extra behind the guitar, some beats, some bass” said Lloyd in a recent interview. Thus Graeme Short (Bassist), Ben Walker (Beat-boxer / percussion) and Lauren Douglas (Vocals) were incorporated, rounding-out an already ambitious set-up.
To accompany the release of their self-released, debut-album; Jangled Nerves in July 2015, the band are hitting the road, starting out with another slot at Newcastle's O2 academy. Their recently written track It's our time is emblematic of the current spike in their career trajectory.
