On Wednesday, April 27th, 2005 at approximately 11:49 pm U.S. Central Standard time, a small collision occurred in Cyberspace. Via Google search, a Bitstream.net user stumbled onto I.P. address 84.92.190.82- a now defunct U.K. website called The Sound of Muzak. There, the letters typed into the search engine- 'K', 'L' and 'F' appeared with a humorous rant concerning the trending lack of creativity in popular music. The Bitstream user was Brooke Aldridge; the I.P. address belonged to John Matthews.
Matthews- an electronic composer responsible for creations by The Attery Squash, Spray, Cuban Boys, Rikki & Daz as well as the 2006 Eurovision smash 'Teenage Life'- and Aldridge- a demo singer for Synth pioneer Dr. Fink- began an unlikely friendship of epic proportions. Tired of watching mediocre talents storm the charts, the two created an over-the-top Electro-Clash character called Lolly Pop. With the help of Fink as well as The Time/Original 7ven alumni Monte Moir, the four crafted an Electropop album by the same name, then toured the States. Still, Lolly was but a scratch on the surface of things to come- namely... POP INC.
With in months of meeting Matthews on line, Aldridge watched guitarist + creative entity UZi slam dance without missing a beat on his Strat in the band A:POD. Aldridge became an instant fan and the two agreed to create something in the future. The future arrived in 2009 with a voice-over from BBC actor Simon Jones and a deliciously lo-fi video for LOOKING 4 THE KLF. With support from KLF-COMMUNICATIONS, DANCEMUSIC.ABOUT.COM and NME, POP INC scored a micro hit with their debut maxi. This led to a 2010 partnership with Ninthwave Records, an appearance on SYNTHETIC DANCE MUSIC VOL 2. as well as TC ELECTROPUNK VOL 5.
In March 2011, POP INC ransomed L4KLF : 2011 to raise funds on Kickstarter.com to create a video for their Chaplin-inspired single, BOULEVARD of BROKEN DREAMS. Along with assorted guest stars (Pascal of TRANS-X, Louise of The Attery Squash, Jenny McClaren of Spray, Neil Schultz of DWI and many more), the gang are polishing up their freshman LP for a Spring 2012 release.
