Pure Sweet Hell

Pure Sweet Hell first came on the scene with the release of a self titled 6 song ep featuring Van Williams (Nevermore) stepping into the vocal position, as well as taking care of drum duties and a New York Multi-Instrumentalist Chris Eichhorn. Pure Sweet Hell later released their first full length effort called "The Voyeurs of Utter Destruction As Beauty", which picked up some vey impressive response for an unsigned band. With this release Van was still handling vocals and added another voice to the mix, that of old friend and vocalist Jim "Ravenfeeder" Colson. Jim contributed to two tracks on the Voyeurs album "Hangfire" and "Golgotha On My Mind". Pure Sweet Hell inked a deal with Crash Music Inc. and the Voyeurs album was now officially released. After some time with the label the band realized that the relationship with Crash Music was not working and have left in search of a more fitting home. Now back, stronger sounding than before, PURE SWEET HELL are beginning anew, and are learning to harness what they are truly about, creating a musical style all their own.
The latest in the history of this band is the self released "SPITTING AT THE STARS" recorded in the fall of 2011. Though Van is mostly known for his heavy metal drumming abilities, which this latest record truly shows, he also leads the vocal helm once again, this time expanding and exploring his vocal ability from death growls to clean vocals on songs like "Echoes of the End" and "Coldest Winter", showing his true range as a singer. Joining this time around in the vocal department, the guys have recruited Dean Sternberg (Into Eternity, Within Another) to add something extra to the songs. This has put the icing on the cake in making the album sound one of a kind. The "Anomaly" in this group is the main vein and founder of PURE SWEET HELL Chris Eichhorn, without his unique musical sensibility the band would not exist. Chris is a guitar playing, bass thumping, music writing freak (for lack of a better word) with musical influences ranging from HENDRIX to VOIVOD to PORCUPINE TREE. SPITTING AT THE STARS has some of today's best guitar wizards laying down their own styles making this record truly unique! Jeff Loomis, Attila Voros of NEVERMORE, Chris Amott from ARCH ENEMY, Glen Drover (MEGADETH, KING DIAMOND) Steve Smyth (TESTAMENT, FORBIDDEN) and John Winters (HATEFIST) all put a little piece of their souls on this record.
Metal, rock, thrash, groove, death, goth, funk, sci-fi, technical, avant-garde…PURE SWEET HELL has been labeled all of these things. The band just call it "metal...of some sort". So just listen, groove, and hopefully you will see and hear all of the above. Let us know what you think they are, Like it or not, PURE SWEET HELL is just enjoying simply being themselves.
